Not sure what kind of bug it is. I think its kind of a mimic. It's no wasp or hornet but it has colors like them.

Thanks, I'm using a Canon Xsi that I just got and an EF-S 17-85mm F4-5.6 IS lens.

Thanks Ed. I went out hoping to see some of the birds that have I have seen in my yard lately (never when I have my camera) but of course when I take my camera out...nothing.
Here's one of the birds that I snapped with my S3IS in Feb. He's some kind of woodpecker that is quite comfortable with people around. I was hoping to get a better pic today.
