I think as long as they've got the other stand alone Avengers films going and Iron Man in 2 Avengers features they'll bide their time, give RDJ some breathing room and revisit the idea after Avengers 3. I could be wrong but I hope I'm right because I think he has one more solo adventure left in him before he outgrows the part. I just don't think the time will be right for another 6 years or so.

I really don't think RDJ will want to return to make solo IM movies. Age, private time, typecasting, and such will probably push him to make movies other than super hero genre. As with progressing age it would also be wiser for him to play in movies which would enable him to show his talent in different roles. Otherwise he would probably be remembered as IM as his most prominent and remembered role. Still the last decisive factor will be money. If they offer him some obscene amount of payment he'd probably return if he cares more about the money than his career.

They said the picture was a shot of the cover of Avengers issue #2. Fan comments below speculated on him as the Vision, or maybe a villain...Absorbing Man. All speculation though.

yeah i cold see him as Absorbing man. i think he fits that role pretty good. has the looks.

that wasn't the absorbing man. even though he did resemble him abilities wise.. im pretty sure Ange Lee said that he wasn't supposed to be absorbing man even though he had the abilities. i think he called him "partake of essences of all things man" or something along those lines in an article..
