it's like using a nuke to dig a fence post hole. we were supposed to be manning a mission to the moon in the next few years. why not just look then? if there is a .0000000000000001 % chance it will negatively affect the earth, why take it?
we are talking nasa here. btw, did they ever figure out a way to keep the tiles on the space shuttle from falling off and causing a critical event?

Oddy - were you one of those people worried about Y2K also? Were you afraid that planes were going to fall right out of the sky?

if you or anyone can give a 100% absolute, i'll be aboard. anything short of that is simply overconfidence, and you know where that can lead us. the world needs devil's advocates like myself. we cause people to think harder and look deeper.

Okay then - I'll do it. Here it is:
I give you 100% absolute that everything will be okay...

You're never going to get a 100% absolute from a theory, so no, it's not overconfidence, it's science. As in, a 100% absolute prior to the experiment is impossible. If that had been the requirement for space flight, there wouldn't even be any space flight to date.

It's about time. I've been suspicious of the moon for years now...always lurking, loitering about the heavens. Hit first and hit hard I say. "Talk not to me of blasphemy, man; I'd strike the sun if it insulted me"

so this is an experiment? i was surprised many years ago to learn the moon was the regulator of our tides. the delicate relationship between earth and moon is an important and fragile one. why risk a catastrophic event for little reward? we'll find out soon enough if the moon has water.

and by the way, not that you are listening, but there are no true "absolutes", besides doing nothing I guess. However, .0000000000000001% is pretty damn close. Easy there Chicken Little, NASA won't end the world..........geez.
