Statue Inflation

Ant owner of PCS stated that materials alone are up 30 per just this year. I did get 15 years of fun out of collecting, glad I started when I did

If new pieces are inflated, that means old ones follow too ... so its a win win i guess... similar to property market.

Sell the old and get a new one.

We are not cash cows as you know dear statue/figure companies.

If we stop buying these inflated figures/statues , they will have to start reducing prices..

Unfortunately thats been said by collectors for as long as I’ve been a collector (7 years) and yet nothing in the grand scheme of things has changed.

Except that prices have continually gone up, and pieces continue to sell... so maybe not so much has changed after all.

I have stayed in up to now by just getting a statue a year. Use to get 10 statues a year. Waiting on PCS Devastator then if statues do go up again it's going to be a statue each few years, if any

Wood working is another one of my hobbies and the price of lumber has tripled in the past year. Plus I've been paying more at the grocery store for the same exact items. So it's not just statues. I'm pretty much just looking forward to XM's Catwoman and whenever they do a Mr. Freeze, and I'm probably out of this hobby. And the shipping costs... ouch. Or I'll just collect 1/6 from now on. The inflation is pretty much just another huge tax on us since our paychecks aren't going up.

Have to see if this is pandemic bump that settles or new normal. If statues keep climbing I'll cut back on pieces and be increasingly selective.

I think we'll all be ok if we just practice "Quality / Quantity"......I consider myself an active collector, but I purchase pieces VERY sporadically - mostly due to ungodly wait times, but also because I'm always looking for THAT piece which really speaks to me.

There are a number of pieces where I "uhmm'd, and ahh'd" over whether to buy or not. Or I waited for in hand photos before I ordered, and this indecision lead to me missing some nice pieces.....on the other hand, it saved me from huge disappointment (Prime 1 Red Sonja).

So, buying less - being hyper selective, might be a better way to enjoy the hobby, regardless of any price shifts.
