I started on a base for some of my action figures and now I want to paint it in this look:
Just a tad darker, how can I achieve this?

I use those cheap $14 badger airbrushes and start a speckle effect with Whites, Greys and blacks. Then depending areas i used pastel dust for darker areas, and fine airbrush areas for lighter or darker etc...
Thats what i did for my Aurora base found here http://www.statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=43879
But thats how i work to get a granite feel for stuff.

Yup
I buy one once a year off ebay, for like $14. Good for speckeled type painting. They are cheap as hell, and globs of paint comes out of it. But used far enough away with sprits of paint, can get nice sand or granit effects.
Also from time to time i use it for solid coating on bigger projects.
Edite: badger 250 is what its called.

This tip comes from Danno Cope, I used it for a base I wanted
to look like stone.
This also can be used through an airbrush with the same
sets of instructions as well.
Thanks Danno
Tom
Go to Walmart and go to the spray paint section and buy the following cans of paint:
Krylon Ultraflat Dark Brown
Krylon Ultraflat Khaki
Krylon Flat Blck
Krylon Flat White
Duplicolor Filler primer (light grey)
Take the base to a well ventilated area (maybe the garage with a piece of cardboard under it). Taking what you have now...start with black and hold the can about 15" away from the base. Using very short spirts (about 1-2 seconds), light hit the entire base. The paint will dry almost immediately as you are doing this and it will add litterally 1000's of tiny black specs over it. This helps to break up the stone and add a texture for a more organic look. Follow this spritzing with Dark Brown. Then take a small bit more time adding the spritz of the Khaki to warm up the tone and get that natural cement like color. It's still gonna be dark now....so when you follow up with the spritzing of light grey (very sparce and light) and finally the white. The base will lighten up a bunch and have hat off speckled stone look.
