I get a company has a line and says "If the latest piece doesn't sell, the line ends" so we know there are tons of hypothetical statues not made due to lack of sales.

The issue is if it becomes more common for companies to reveal, put up for pre order, take 3+ years, cancel a pre order. To me this discourages people from pre ordering because there is no guarantee anymore. Wait until can buy a statue at retail and have it shipped immediately. For many pieces what is gained by being out so much money for so long if there's a 10% chance it won't materialize?

At bare minimum I wish P1 would just talk about these things. We're human, mistakes happen, business can be tough (especially these past couple years). People can forgive and understand, but walls of silence tend to lead to worst case interpretations of malicious intent or utter indifference.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I agree with this, but I still don't understand why the collector reaction is to dump the whole line they collected, or to not support Prime 1 further because of this one time they cancelled something. Business is business, and I'd rather they cancel one piece from time to time then to have constant losses on the books to the point where they can't operate anymore.

I also still don't understand the discouragement to preorder, because preordering is how you tell a company you're interested. Take the petition to release the DST Hela statue on this forum. That's all fine and good, but obviously the preorder numbers weren't there if they decided to cancel it. I wonder how many of those people who say they want it released previously had a preorder, or how many would be willing to preorder if they put it up for sale again.

The frequent argument is putting money down, but I have never once had to pay for a statue in full up front. At best, a deposit is needed, and it's usually 10%. If someone is so concerned that $100 is locked from their use for a couple of years, then it's probably not a good idea to be buying $1000 statues. I've also heard the argument that they're not earning interest on that deposit, which I would love to know what bank they're using to get such a fabulous return on $100.

Personally (and probably for many others) when I decide to PO a piece, I have a distinct idea of how I want it displayed, what I want to display it with, and a general idea of where I will put it. Maybe this isn't super common, Idk, but when one piece is canceled and I had a whole display I was planning, and there's no replacement on the market I can work with, I have to cancel the whole line I was working on and planning for 2+ years. That is frustrating for me and other collectors who had their minds set on a goal and put in the time and effort to designing and planning out their display just how they want it.

Behavior like this absolutely causes me to not want to PO from P1 and not get excited about their pieces because of so much uncertainty and now I've lost the deposits on the pieces I PO'd to display with this piece. That's a monetary incentive not to PO. But as for being discouraged from POing, most people would probably rather not get their hopes up, and P1 is developing a bad reputation for themselves. Personally this has happened to me twice already with P1.

I understand this hobby is full of emotion and nostalgia but this canceling a piece should absolutely be telegraphed ahead of time if the piece isn't selling too well. Maybe a warning page saying "If these pieces don't sell XX more units in the next month, the entire piece will be canceled" Because really you are hyping up a line and then when you break the line by canceling a piece, you're still keeping deposits for pieces you didn't cancel but promoted along with that piece.

Even if they cancel that one, the great thing about Harley is that there will always be other opportunities to get her in any scale you want from multiple sources. Unlike characters like Deadshot or Grail, that space in your collection can easily be filled by a newer or different version in a style that fits your collection best.

I feel in this case it wasn't filling the preorders to do the honourable thing. They were most likely trying to recover the costs of development and buying a licence that only has one character that's worth making. It's not the same as Batman where you can drop one character and make the money back with a whole roster of heroes and villains.

That's cool. For myself, I just can't operate that way. I once moved houses and didn't unpack most things because I figured I was going to move again within the next couple of years. Those couple of years turned into over 5, and I really regretted that decision. I think subconsciously I've applied what I learned there to my collection, and do my planning a differently. Now, I make sure I have space available, but I don't keep it open. I just know how I can rearrange when the piece is released.

No regret. I wanted the AK Ivy anyway. Still waiting for my perfect Ivy. SSC, P1 and XM failed to give her to me.

I found my perfect 1/4 Ivy in the XM Samurai series. But it is not to everyone's taste.
I'm now looking forward to the Tweeterhead Ivy.

I already liked Arkham City Ivy. I would have bought Ivy a year ago, but now I am no longer interested in her.

If Ivy got less preorders than that, it could be the factory's decision not to produce it.

I can't understand their decision to make the 7.43 Suit anyway, not when they still haven't done an Asylum or City version of Batman. Blows my mind that after all this time they haven't done the first, and in my opinion, best suit. Seems like a no-brainer money maker to me.

Sorry to all those who pre-ordered Ivy, this really sucks.
