Custom head sculpt prices
What could I expect to pay for a custom head for a 1/4 scale statue. Nothing fancy just a dudes head with short hair?

Out of interest, some time ago, i contacted a sculptor to enquire about the price of a 1/6th scale head sculpt based on an actor, and they came back with a price of $1600

What does he need/want to do? Research the character for a full year and then start slowly on your small project?
I guess you already searched for some good reference pictures yourself. 1600
If it are really those prices. I would try couple of heads myself. Fimo clay (only few dollars) or the more expensive Sculpey.

$1600 is nuts, was that a one of a kind finished head with rooted hair? even then would be outrageous
$300-400 for a 3d file has been my experience, then it needs to be printed and painted

It takes time and talent to sculpt something that looks like an actor/actress
Can you imagine what someone like K.A.Kim earns for her services.

Fully sculpted.
Also, the sculptor in question has made a bit of a name for themselves. I guess that bumps up the price.

ah well i guess that kind of makes sense, kind of - still nuts but i guess its no different than established comic artists charging an arm and a leg for commissions

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

not to hijack this topic but on a similar topic, how much would it cost to just paint the head sculpt and perhaps change the hair style of 1/4 size statue.
