Besides, its for my damn birthday (end of October, xbox 360 is supposed to launch in Nov.). I got my wife that ipod photo for xmas ($600), she's GOTTA be right with the hook up...

2 bad things with this:
1 stupid kids drop things all the time, and dropping a hard drive is a no-no.
2 removable hard drive, all I hear is "REPLACEABLE, UPGRADABLE, MODABLE" hard drive.
Any one wanna start a pool as to when the first people out there will be messing with this xbox?
It's amazing what people can do some times.

Hell yeah! I rigged my x-box so I could play Super Nintendo, Genesis, Neo Geo, Dreamcast games all that stuff! I can even copy Xbox games straight to the harddrive! (although I had to stop since I was running out of space and didn't want to buy a new harddrive like most ppl do). This new X-Box is gonna be alot more PC then console which means highly modable. The only selling point for me will be the games though. If the games suck why would I want all that? Just like the PSP they'r games blow.

I was really looking forward to this until I read on ign.com that the DVD drive is not going to be either HD-DVD or Blu-ray, just plain old DVD.
They are missing out on one of the biggest upcoming markets uptapped, if they had done this and made it backwards compatable with current games (that is not yet confirmed) it would have been a must-buy in my house.
What a shame they decided to go this way, I think Sony will have a leg up on the next gen race - and I LOVE my x-box...
just my two cents

That's a very good point. Most new gen systems tend to have the latest tech, and not doing so can compromise the profits plus shift the interest of gamers everywhere. This might be were Sony takes over for good. Now if they can come up with a solid online network like X-Box live and a decent broadband rate, then it's gonna be real good.

I also think its a mistake for Microsoft not to use the newest dvd technology. You know Sony is gonna use this as a major marketing ploy for the PS3. Also, they better make the xbox 360 freakin' backwards compatible with the xbox games or I'm gonna be pissed. I absolutely love the xbox but it looks like with the next generation consoles I may be leaning towards going back to Sony and the PS3.
