Wow, they really went it did it. I think the new base is far superior to the old one, it fits better into the overall look of the line. And with both a switch out head and weapon, minor tweaks aside, there isn't much left in the original release. Sad really.

This won't have the switch out head. And I'd rather have the original base if I could.
I'd rather have the original if I'm honest.

Corrected, no switch out portrait or weapon. Their choice of words "reserving" is ever slightly confusing, as in "preserving the switch out head..." but this was a misreading on my part. Still...

I remember when he went on sale back in the day, but it was just a generic grim reaper statue back then. It had no connection to this collection or story. I didn't even look twice at it. Wasn't interested. But now that the story has come out evolving into what it is now as well as having all the other characters introduced, it's nice to know that some of us late to the line still has a chance to own something this cool that was retconned into the story. Granted, it's definitely not as cool as the original one, but it's still a nice option for us.

I paid 1K for Death's General back in 2012 because I thought he was fabulous.
I don't think that the figure is any better now that he is more firmly connected to an improvised mythology that appears to be made up on the hoof to satisfy Sideshow's accountants more than anything else.
So, with "Sideshow inflation" what's he going to be in 2015/2016.....$1300?
