Grendelscott's DVD Corner 07/02/06

Welcome back! Just to recap for any new members, each week I will post what is due out that week (or at least most of the main stream releases, as anywhere from 100-300 DVDs are released each week). I'll then spotlight a DVD with a review or news about a new one coming out. Finally, I'll post a DVD easter egg or two each week. Many of you might already know of them, but they are fun things to find "hidden" on your DVDs.

It's a really small week this week...

DVD releases due out Tuesday, July 4th:
Movies:
TV Seasons/Box Sets:
  • Charlie's Angels: The Complete Third Season (Box Cover)
DVD INFO

Libertine
DVD Empire

Passionate. Decadent. Scandalous...

Oscar® nominee Johnny Depp delivers "a tour de force performance" (Baz Bamigboye, The Daily Mail) in The Libertine. As the celebrated writer and bad boy John Wilmot, second Earl of Rochester, Depp brings to life a decadent 17th century London. There, Wilmot falls passionately in love with his aspiring actress muse (Oscar® nominee Samantha Morton), but is cast from the heights of privileged society when he scandalizes King Charles II (Oscar® nominee John Malkovich) with a shockingly audacious play. At the depths of ruin, the rebel seeks redemption on his own terms. "Johnny Depp is brilliant," raves Cosmopolitan, while Peter Travers of Rolling Stone calls The Libertine a "one-of-a-kind spellbinder."

Features:
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Making of Documentary
  • Director Commentary
  • Theatrical Trailer
Video:
  • Widescreen 2.35:1 Color (Anamorphic)
Audio:
  • ENGLISH: Dolby Digital 5.1 [CC]
Subtitles:
  • English
  • Spanish

That's all folks! Thanks for reading, and see you next week.

Thank goodness. Another slow week. My wallet definitely needs a break, especially with She-Ra & the Hulk just around the corner.

Were these movies even out in the theater? Or art houses? Or am I totally out of touch with "pop culture"?

You're out of touch. Both of these were released in the theaters. I also remember seeing the previews for both at least a few times on TV.

The new Doctor Who Season One set came out this week as well. I just saw the full run on Sci-Fi so I am undecided if I am going to buy this right away or not. I'm behind in my DVD viewing as it is.
