Prime1 Jurassic Park /// T. rex

1/38 scale, scheduled for 2025. Fairly reasonably priced at $129 USD.

Personally, I gotta say I'm REAALLLY not a fan of it. It copies the Nanmu Once and Future King figure waaaay too much for my liking. The pose and sculpt are nearly identical, just mirrored. Even the rock base is similar. And, I won't lie, there's a lot of bits that are "off" about the Nanmu one that got copied here, like the overexaggerated snout. With Nanmu you can justify it with trying to skirt copyright. Here, there's no excuse, especially when it looks like a copy. The W-Dragon one was expensive so this one is definitely more budget friendly, I'll give it that. Also really digging the Isla Sorna shaped rock base. I think I'll have to mull this one over for a while. Might just have to wait to see in hand copies before I order this one.

I could be wrong, but I think they just shrank down the sculpt from the cliff attack diorama? So he's looking down at the SUV to his right here.

They're similar, but not the same. The male T. rex in the cliff set is more crouched, more leaned forward, has less of a back hump, the arms are posed differently, the mouth is more closed, and there's generally different sculptural details. For instance, there's more folds in the wattle of the Cliff attack Rex. The nasal ridge is also more defined and more exagerrated than on this sculpt, an error I already was aware of, but willing to look past for the sake of owning the set.

All Prime 1 Bull models are straight from Julien Romeo, and were sculpted way before Nanmu unlicensed attempts.

It's basically the same as the Nanmu version though, at least in pose. I don't think it represents the the JP3 version very well. That animal was more CG that animatronic anyway. Much like the Spino.

Definitely not straight from. Somebody definitely made modifications from Julien's sculpt.

And in the conversations I've had with him, Julien has told me that the female T. rex, at least, is a slightly older version than his current sculpt. Not sure if that also applies to the other sculpts he's done for Prime1.

As soon as the first image of this JPIII Rex appeared on Instagram he commented that Prime 1 paid for his models once and then never again while continuously re-releasing them. He was so pissed he talked about opening an Etsy store and selling them himself.

I don't think he would have done that if those were altered versions of what P1 purchased from him.
And yes, they were all slightly older models.
