My wife's laptop sounds like someone is shaking a coffee can with a couple bucks change in it. Now it won't boot up, any thoughts?

I've been having issues with XP lately (error messages popping up & the pc not picking up connections from the USB) & I've been thinking of upgrading to Windows 7.

Would this correct the issues or would it just be more of the same?

What does it do to your browser? Send screen shots if you have any. Does it just send you to random sites? Alot of times you have to go look for what program is similar to it in your add and remove programs and uninstall it. The unfortunate thing is that alot of tool bars seem to get installed on alot of users web browsers that are pretty much ad bots.
Also, I must add to not be afraid of Google chrome. It is possibly the best creation they could have created (for me) besides google earth.

It will send me to an attack sight maybe 1 out of 10 google searches. I'm using firefox at the moment and the security add on had kept me safe until today and I ended up getting a virus form the site it sent me to. I dealt with the virus no problem, but i can't find this damn Hijacker. It's not something that shows up in the program list. It's not from anything i installed. I must have picked it up on some less then reputable site.
