The CM approach to this is fascinating. Having continuous produciton is great becausen it means that people can get involved collecting the new stuuff and still have the option of picking up the older pieces brand new five years after they came out.
The downside is that as newer licences are aquireed and the list of characters grow, will people want to go back and pick up the old ones?
I am not one hundred per cent convinced by the way these are released. Clearly they are intricate and require a lot of work but does some of the SS PF's and they knock those out in larger numbers and in bulk - take the Speeder Bike and Scout for example - 2000 odd of those in one shot.
CM limit production in a way that rives up demand beyond belief and keeps the prices at what they should be. With a very slow release schedule the company also knows that it needs to dribble these pieces on to the market in order to keep the cash flow and interest in the line going. It also knows that these pieces cost top dollar - and selling all of the run in one go (if they opted for a SS style of production) would not work. These pieces do not sell well from stores charging full retail. They sell by word of mouth andp eople seing the new stuff like Jack and Indy and going back and investigating the whole line.
