What materials do you guys use for your base? since the bottom of the base is usually just heavy weight to keep the statues from tipping over, it seems kinda wasteful to use sculpting clay for it.

I use plaster of paris then cover it up with plumber's putty

Actually I wouldn't mind knowing a good place to get a marble base one that would add a plaque for me. Spruce up some of my finer pieces maybe.

I use found objects for my bases all the time ... you'd be surprised the stuff that you can find just laying around that makes for a good base.

Balsa Foam would be my first pick, I also use Super Sculpey or Bondo on wood, Bondo works great but smells bad so I would do it outside, if you try Super Sculpey on wood make sure you rough up the wood a little so it sticks better then cook with heat gun.

You can pretty much use anything for a base if you build it right:). hope this helps a little, Good luck.
