Hi All,
Looking for some advice. My first sculpt is close to completion and I want to make sure I take all the right precautions before baking/boiling it. I dont want to destroy all the hours Ive invested!

My model has a lot of fine detail on it. Is it wise for me to use a heat gun on these areas to lock down detail, and then bake/boil the sculpt afterwards? Is this common practice?

If you're boiling it it's a good idea to hit it with the heat gun first because it can bump around in the pot. If you're baking it shouldn't be an issue as long as your careful. Sculpey won't melt or anything in the over so as long as it isn't bumped on anything it should be fine.

Thanks Voshizle. You just can't be too careful me thinks!

For sure. And if you do use the heat gun be very patient. Don't keep it focused on a single spot too long. It's kinda like spray painting/priming. Just as you don't want to focus the spray in one spot too long and get runs, you don't want to focus the heat in one spot for too long and burn/blister/royally f*ck up all that hard work.
