It seems like this is more about the base than it is Doc Ock. I did order this one but it’s another space hog for sure . The tentacles seemed very short in length for a character that is recognized by his main feature the tentacle . Not sure I love this one....

"My suggestion is maybe need someone to help to assemble the upper left tentacle. The difficulty I faced is the contact point of tentacle and body is very tight. Meanwhile you need to put the claw in the right place. You have to do both action in the same time (insert tentacle into the body and insert the claw into tentacle).

When you done everything. It would be a phenomenal statue in your collection. It's one of my favorite pieces now. XM Thanos and Lady Death no doubt is the best set this year in my opinion. However, I personally love Dr Octopus more. "

The official unboxing has beautiful reflecting glasses and black rim.
It does not have the tiny spider-man picture in it, luckily.

Just found the posted pictures at facebook.
They painted the reflecting spot in glasses, silver/white quite large (at least 30% of the area). Hope it look good in person.

The bottom right tentacle is still not touching the building as it should (all 3 ppl who posted today with in hand pics).
Other than that it looks great!

Well after what seems to be ages I finally received Otto Octavius and rest assured Spider freaks he’s pretty awesome . Paint apps were flawless and the overall size make this statue very large and imposing . It’s def one of the best in the line but some quirks that bothered me on this :

1. The money bag magnet was very weak and it barely is hanging onto tentacle . I have no way to fix this as it was manufactured this way . I never liked the bag and wished this could have been swapped out for plain tentacle claw. It would have been easy to do .

2. This is def a concern with engineering of the top left claw. I have zero doubt that many collectors will break the claw fingers on this tentacle due to it being needed to twist ever so slightly while the tentacle is inserted at the same time ( btw it was super tight going into his back which added to problem ) . It’s poorest design on the piece . Some of the other tentacles are a little finicky but hold well but that upper left is a pain in the ass so be careful .

3. The classic head imo is terrible . It looks like Elton John and the hair paint app is poor and super smooth design or lack of movement makes it look cheap . The modern is excellent and that’s the one I wanted anyways

Aside from these observations the details in building are outstanding . It’s criminal I can’t see the back . All the moulding , mildew on concrete , cracks , broken glass adds to the weathered feel of this . If you want to conserve space , this is not for you . It’s huge and heavy as f—k!

Imo it’s probably one of the best in the line . I still feel like scorpion is better but I use that loosely as both are perfect renditions of the respective characters . I have mine with XM Vulture I feel like they pair amazing together . Happy 2021 fellow collectors . Stay safe and let’s have a better 2021. We all deserve it!

I think it looks good. Saying that as someone who never liked the coat. It worked in the one movie but I never liked it otherwise.

I also like the classic head. The bowl cut is classic Doctor Octopus for me. But I really like the shades on the modern head.

My only complaint about this piece is Doc Oc is floating or flying or hovering because his arms mostly aren’t touching anything. I guess the one top claw is kinda gripping something. I know he keys in somehow, but he has the illusion of just floating.

Got it pal and yes I am . His name is Homer. I see concerns on floating aspect but honestly one arm is all he would need to prop himself up . The statue is well done . I think the engineering they ran into problems figuring out these arms for the very reason we talk about them .

I will not hold my breath for SS to make villains it’s ridiculous in all these years they still haven’t . This Doc Ock is a huge eye grabber and looks better than any photo I could take .

I would have loved the reflective glasses , the hair needs more detail on both portraits but aside from that it’s pretty outstanding

Something I also find odd is the tentacles are attached to a body brace fused into his spine . On this statue there is no indication of that apparatus under or over his suit. It’s like the tentacles come out of his flesh on the back . That part bothers me the most as it doesn’t make sense to me . Refer to pic below :

Yes, logically what you’re saying makes full sense, but it’s a typical depiction once he’s in an outfit you can’t tell it’s a harness. It’s “comic logic” rather than real world sensibility.

In Spider-Man 2 it’s very thin. You can just barely see it underneath his clothes here. For the rest of the movie they dressed him so you can’t really tell.

And after posting the classic Doc Oc pic above I see why I like the bowl cut and shades. I was just picking elements from both heads I prefer, not even considering he wore the bowl and shades together in the comics. The heads really are fine as is but my personal tweak is I would’ve liked the eyewear swapped on them. The shades are more classic and the goggles are more modern anyway. Very minor nitpick though.

Apart from the fact that the tentacles can not be 100% positioned same way with every statue (as supposed). Your statue is flawless indeed.
Saw two small concerns with some other ppl statues, which yours does not have.

Congrats, the modern portrait you like the most, is the best i've seen. I like both equally, but prob display classic one myself.

XM did a good job with the silver metal look of the tentacles. They used a bronze like weathering over the silver, which give it a perfect realistic look.
Plain silver can easily make a statue look cheap.
Also the color of the teeth (both heads) is very realistic. When I saw details like that with first inhand pics, it convinced me this is what I bought it for.

For the price, I wish it came with one switchout tentacle. Been a while receiving a large statue, can't wait.

Thanks for words friends. It’s such a cool piece . You can’t not notice it when you walk into a room . Gary I agree Electro was awesome but his massive base was set back for as it made dinner plate hard to place where I needed it . Same with Lizard. I really like villains with the brick rumble bases. It matches them more . Doc Ock, vulture , scorpion , venom , green goblin all have these it makes them more uniform .

There are no mistakes . This is how XM wanted this pieces to look . No sense comparing production to prototype . There is only one prototype and they never promised us exact matches anyways .

I am not talking about compairing proto to present outcome.

Look at your belt buckle (right side of coat).
Compare it with post799 from Grumpy (first picture/is also an inhand statue).

XM had this coat-strap buckle, first designed at right side and they changed it to the left side going in production.
They did this for overall look, so not having all the straps at one side and all buckles at other.

But yours got these buckles at both sides, right should be the strap and left the buckle.
So you have a unique one ;-)

Due to a lack of space I had to settle for the Doc Ock bust from Bowen Designs a long time ago and even though I really dig that bust, it is with all due respect not as awe-inspiring as this fantastic full size statue.:D

I want to thank you for your keen eyes. I never noticed that and it’s major error but not end of the world . I brought it up to Todd and Ang they agreed they would help me get proper body . It’s def the old proto body type that was painted and shipped . They both assured me they would take care of this .

I guess this is why we post pictures and at first I was mad to be honest but after breathing lol it gave me opportunity to test out the customer care we hear so much about and both sellers responded with directions for me in zero time . Pretty amazing stuff !

Me too, bcs this spidey (+ss venom&carnage) is the main reason I bought this Ock.
The moneybag is higher above the floor that I first thought, nice photo from the side.

I don't know Gary, this looks scalewise perfect to me.
In this picture, lenght of limbs is the same.

He does not take more than hulk or Hulkbuster or so many others I could name off. I like the idea being able to stagger displays at diff heights as I don’t have mine inside cabinets . Statues like Lizard and Electro I sold the giant dinner plate base I found more awkward to make them work with other pieces. You can’t force a circle to be anything but a circle so I said goodbye.

Vulture is a great piece, especially in his top position, which is where I think it looks best. Very underrated and one of the best in this line.

TBH, the only two that I wasn't a fan of were Sandman(just too big) and Kraven(just didn't like it). I'm not a fan of the upcoming Green Goblin either. It just looks really lack luster to me.

I'm hoping for a Hobgoblin and Symbiote Spidey. Those should complete my Spidey collection.

This thread was in need of a CORRECTION given all the misguided posts about Doc Oc “floating” and Doc Oc’s tentacles not “grabbing” or “touching” the Building.

Im very happy with the engineering and blessed to get one in perfect condition (no paint issues or extra buckles, etc.).

You’re list is the same as mine! Lol. I have a bunch of 1/4 Spideys including Miles and the only villain I have is Rhino Comiquette Ex...speaking of, I think I’m keeping that over XM’s. The XM looks good but I just like the basic, classic Rhino.

I’d wait for Venom. We just don’t know what we’re going to get.

Almost all ppl who have posted pics/vids, this lower tentacle does not fully grab the building.
So I guess that XM/factory did not improve this aspect, bcs some of first proto pics had this problem too.

My lower one is tight and the upper one is medium. I would describe both as nearly perfect.

Mine grab upper and lower but it took some playing with. Def could have been better but this character was causing them grief even with the first design . The tentacles were going to have him supported off the ground and they scrapped that because of weight concerns . Not an easy thing to pull off

I’d even say Prowler at this point due to movies and video games (although it’s been Aaron Davis and not Hobie Brown). Even allies like Spider-Gwen, Silk and Noir. If they can make Throg and Kid Deadpool they can make Spider-Ham. They just choose not to make them.

Made my own arrangements with Ang. I actually like my body all my tentacles fit perfect and the claws . Paint was great so no need . I asked for extra straps and discount on my next piece I was good with that . That straps glue in so removing the old one and replacing with proper one I’ll have two sent to me just in case . I prob won’t change it .

Received Octopus three hours ago, glad XM has a stirdy inner box, bcs the shipper was heavily dented and punctured. XM-europe taped bubble wrap around the shipper box, so it would not go any further in transport to my home.

All parts are well packed, smaller items had good paperwrap and body plus base had combo of paper and plastic bags. Did not notice special weight, until I took out the base. Wow that one felt like a big concrete slab (weight of two normal statues)

Paint on these seem consistent, I have a higher edition no and is same as photos already posted. Parts got moisture due to temp diff, so will assemble tomorrow and take a closer look. I'm happy with it.

Guess what amigo you don’t need to worry about it. It’s my piece not yours I’m happy with it so maybe jog onto something different . I don’t know what defects you keep referring to . Most have issues placing claws and they all will fit with some patience but your lack of forum participation and consistent haggling reminds of a certain creature that lives under a bridge .....

I see your lowest strap is also fully bent by the tentacle with moneybag.
Mine already touched the strap when I still had the peg in front of the socket (not inserted yet), so i had to warm up the strap and then it gave room needed without breaking.

Wow I see you improve all your statues, when you feel it is needed. I do the same but smaller tweaks bcs I don't have real skills at painting and sculpting.

I also made piece broken glass in my Spidey Comiquette.

Yes, assembling Doc Ock tentacles was a BIG challenge. Took me two days.

On my statue,
Two tentacles did not go in at all. Max 1/3 deep and feared something would break if pressed harder. One with moneybag also needs to fully bend the fourth jacket-strap out of the way. Very nice statue but design of tentacles should be much better.

I used a 'dremel tool' (small grinding stone) and removed 0.5mm from the flat area in two sockets.
Noticed the factory glued small plastic strips about 1mm thick in all four tentacle sockets (flat area only).
Still need to push with some force but now all tentacles are like they should. No gap or leaning.

Also be careful with the silver paint, i noticed it rubs off where you apply extra force with your fingers (even with clean hands).

Small trick to help other people with the upper claw (prongs). Unfortunately this did not fit at all either. So used a hairdryer and made the prongs flexible, then put claw in the tentacle and slightly bent one (or two) prongs in the concrete dent.
The two claws also have a lip to indicate which way the claw should go. But this also prevent easy installing, so I removed these also with dremel (saw).

Considered to drill all the holes in the jacket straps, so you could look through them. Would be nice, but unfortunately the applied dents are not lined up at both sides of strap. So did not do this.

Small touch up on the paint here and there.
When fully assembled it is a beautiful statue indeed!

Have to adjust my shelves, Doc Ock is 1 inch to high for my spidey line up.

Oh you don't mean problem with the tentacles, but body of Ock against the wall (windowsill).


They made a vertical line in back-bulge of coat (vertical line, one side of metal peg has less resin) this should support/hook against the windowsill. So Ocks body doesn't rotate to much by itself.

My Ock body was a bit to wobbly so to make locking against building even better, I used dremmel tool to remove some excess resin (back-bulge coat). So end result was as designer had intended. Bit of brown paint / perfect.

Hope you know what i tried to explain (don't have pictures of it).

I thought Conan fury of the beast was reflection in window from a table.. but those cabinets must be quite large, when you fitted him next to The Prize.
I have those too, the Beast is such a bulky/heavy piece.

I see that repainted Spidey Bronze on a different base. I love that statue because he has the pre-McFarlane symbol on his chest with all the arms pointing the same direction.

What is the large Spidey hanging on the wall on the left hand side? Looks like a larger version of the Comiquette which I see on the shelf below.

Conan Fury of the Beast: yes, quite tricky to place FotB and Conan the Price into one field but I found a way. The STUVA (by ikea) is deeper then the Besta (by ikea)
Repaint Spidey: yes, got this and one in original broze

Lage 1/2 scale Spiderman: got this for years now. The 1/2 scaled Spiderman got magnets and can be place at any magnatic wall or metal door or... you can find more pictures at my youtube cannel or at the COLLECTION CORNER
