Hi all...
I'm a big Bowen fan, artist, and am getting really curious about sculpting. I've seen that Sculpey is good for material, but aside from that, really have no idea how to start. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a book or just the basics so I can get started. Would like to do mini-busts mainly...
Thanks
Nathan

Hi...

Here are a handful of titles you may like to have a look at;

Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist - Stephen Peck (ISBN - 0195030958)
Drawing the Humand Head - Burne Hogarth (ISBN - 0823013766)
Dynamic Wrinkles and Drapery - Burne Hogarth (ISBN - 0823015874)
The Artist's Complete Guide to Facial Expression - Gary Faigin (ISBN - 0823016285)

It would also be worth having a look at books on classical sculpture and quality 'how-to sculpt' books...

Hope this is of help

Karl

Further to my first reply...I'm not aware of many specialist books for sculpting in polymer clay apart from one by Katherine Dewey; Creating Life-Like Figures in Polymer Clay. I don't have the book so can't vouch for its usefulness.

The books I listed previously are all artist books and very useful. Most of the information on sculpey I have taken on board has come from magazines and the internet, in particular; www.danperezstudios.com/workshop.htm

You could go over to http://theclubhouse1.net/ and sign up there. They have loads of great hints and tips from members, there`s also some great tutorials and best of all it doesn`t cost a penny!

I picked up a book and DVD by Philippe Faraut called portrait sculpting, it's awsome. it shows step by step sculpting on likenessess and generic facial expressions,they have two volumes. The Complete sculptor has them available.
