Hey guys.

What type of wire do you use for armatures?

I use 18 gage steel galvanized but find it too weak.

Any standard size/type that you can recommend?

i grabbed a wire coat hanger from the cupboard. it works :)

A wire hanger is pretty sturdy, not to mention it's thin as well, so you don't have to get the stockier weaker stuff. But then how will you hang your clothes up?!?!? :D

ah, therein lies the drawback to this approach. i chuck most of my clothes on the floor. not such a cunning plan for you married folk :D

I used some 10 or 12 gauge but cannot remember. Pretty strong too...

.. but after a bend or two they seem to snap. Maybe I'll revisit that again!

I better take another look at the Home Depot for that. The reason I got what I got was because they didn't have any heavier at the time. Plus, I really like the flexibility of the light stuff.

hmm, mine are strong enough that bending short lengths hurts the fingers. i'm not sure what gauge it is but the hanger was the plastic-coated kind and i spent the night peeling off all the plastic coating with my fingernails. ended up with bare wire about as thick as your regular graphite pencil lead.

Yeah you should be able to buy a role of that stuff for like 10-15 bucks...

I did the hulk (not saying it's right) only bulking up the ribs and chest and that wire was strong enough to support the weight of the clay!!!

The best stuff I've found is Aluminum wire from **** Blicks. I couldn't tell you what guage it is, but it's similar to Clothesline wire. I use several different sizes of wire on each piece.

I think I paid $30.00 for a 500 foot spool of this stuff. I might have paid less. Can't remember, as I've never ran out, in 4 years.
