He was painted to match the shading on the artwork, check out both side by side and you'll see what I mean

Thanks for your help, but still...a statue and a printed page are two different things. The comic page used black ink to recreate the wet look. If I had created it, I would have lessened the he's drenched from the rain & soaking wet (not covered with tar).

Either way, its still an amazing sculpture and a fantastic interpretation of Romita Jr's art.
