JOHN C's digital sculpting thread

Hi everyone,

How's it going? I just wanted to start a new thread to share with you my journey into the exciting world of digital sculpting. I decided to make a single thread which I will update whenever I have some new digital related sculpts to share with you.

This first sculpt here is an Orc bust which is still a work in progress. He will have a Helmet and a bit of armor as well. The colors are just a quick render and not final at all. He still needs alot of work but this is my start. Hope you like it so far and keep checking this thread out for more of my digital sculpting works! Batman coming soon!

Thanks renatothally!

Chris- I know I love it! I just got version 4 and it has some truly incredible fuctions! The shadowbox is flat out groundbreaking. It took me a few days to get a good idea on how to use it properly though and can be a bit confusing at times. The clipping brushes are a great addition as well and much needed. Oh and you cant forget the new Spotlight feature. Wow, I just love it all and cant get enough of it!

Awesome! New Thread and great work!

And you have captured the being that lived within my Ex-girlfriend perfectly!

But in all seriousness, nice job! Well done!

ZB 4 sounds awesome. I'm still using 3.5 which was a HUGE upgrade compared to when the program first came out.

I'm hoping they will introduce some type of polygonal modeling inside of zb, something like 3dsmax or maya. Zbrush is awesome but hard surface stuff is a total be-yotch! I find the best way to do the hard surface stuff is to model it out in max or maya and then bring it in to zbrush to detail.

you can do hard surfaces in zb, but you need to use masks and stuff to keep edges sharp and they can be really tedious and at times unpredictable.

Can't wait to see more of your work John!

Vinreaper - Thanks man! Glad you like the new thread. Hahaha! If your ex had some Orc in her then I feel for you man! Glad you like it.

Chrisg - I agree I'd love some polygonal modeling options directly in Zbrush but the new SHadowbox gets close. It's not traditional polygonal modeling but you can model basic forms, then make them into polymeshes and use the new clip tools, polish, flatten etc to get some really hard edge mechanical models. A bit more work but it will allow you to model directly in Zbrush. I have seen some incredible mechanical sculpts using the new 4.0 tools. I use a bit of Maya and 3d max as well but I'm having fun with the new shadowbox and plan to put it to the test soon!

rilynil - Thanks so much! I appreciate the kind words.

AY - I truly appreciate your kind words, especially froma talent such as yourself. Your one of my biggest digital sculpting inspirations and I am always excited to see what new creation you have going. I love Zbrush so much. I just got the 4.0 version and am having a great time learning all the new features! So much to still learn though, everyday I seem to stumble on something new. I'll be showing alot more very soon. I am working on a Batman, Street Fighter, Demon king/warrior etc.

And to all those naysayers about digital sculpting.
