A lot of these artists are either constantly bombarded with e-mails or super busy with work. Keep in mind that commissions are not their primary work, usually it's something secondary that they do in addition to their regular artist work. This mixed with things like convention appearances and anything resembling a life and time to themselves, makes for a delay in getting things done. Not condoning terrible communication skills, but definitely understand how it can happen.
That being said, I also don't believe that a couple of months is super long in the period of at home commissions, especially from an artist who is high in demand (like EBAS is).
Don't know him personally, but by all accounts he's pretty reliable, so I wouldn't necessarily start worry at this point; but that's just me. I have my sketchbook currently in the hands of an artist, and she's had it since the middle of August when I gave it to her in person, and I'm not concerned at all. I know I'll get it eventually and I'd rather her take her time for a great piece of art than rush it to just get it done.
