Franchesco does He-Man!

Day one of Motor City Comic Con has come and gone. While I will certainly be hitting the con again this weekend, and this is far from the only sketch I'll be getting at the show...wow, what a way to start.

Simply put, when Franchesco did the Darth Vader sketch for me at Detroit Fanfare last fall, he said that while he'd drawn Teela and She-Ra, Prince Adam/He-Man himself was a character he'd never had the opportunity to draw. Naturally, once I saw he was slated for MCCC, I decided it was high time he got his shot at the Most Powerful Man in the Universe. And man, did he deliver:

This makes his Poison Ivy and Vader sketches eat its dust. Seriously, this is the very best sketch he's ever done for me. He went all-out to make this baby sing.

By the by, if anyone wants to color this, I have a nice 10 MB scan I can lend for the cause. Just be forewarned: You may have extreme trouble tearing your eyes away from it.

That piece is killer! I love 80s cartoon characters

I really want something by him. Do you have his contact info?

And I would LOVE to see that SheRa by him if there is link.

The She-Ra and Teela art is in his DA gallery, both in full color. His con sketches (11 x 17, single figure only) are all preorder at $100. Which, considering the level of quality he puts into them, is a very fair price.

He'll also be attending Detroit Fanfare in September (which I hope will be a far better show than the mess its inaugural outing was), so I'll once again be hitting him up for a sketch. This time, however, I think a big red S may be heading his way (possibly a Neal Adams homage, if he's up for it).

I think it's a dead heat so far between Franchesco and Darryl Banks as to who draws He-Man the best. We haven't seen a lot of other big-name artists take a whack at him, and it would be a lot of fun to see such folks do so. The mind boggles at what someone like Perez could do with He-Man, for example. And I think we can agree that Grummett would be wonderfully old-school with him. Come to think of it, I'd even be interested in seeing Byrne do He-Man. Even if someone else engages him to do it, it would be worth it to see his take on the character.
