Did anyone watch this on Sunday? I'd heard about it but hadn't planned on watching. I stumbled upon it while checking the news that morning and was glued to the computer for the next couple of hours. It was absolutely fascinating, and the external capsule video was hypnotic.
The term "space" is used loosely; however, when you can see the curvature of the Earth, you know you're quite a ways up. The guy went up 128,000 feet (24 miles), stepped out of the capsule, and was in free fall for over four minutes, breaking the sound barrier.
The physics of this act are mind-boggling. Much to my surprise, people have been doing it since the 1960s. In fact, prior record-holder Joseph Kittinger (age 84) served as the capsule communicator.
