I've seen both versions. Which one do you prefer?

The extended cut, by far. I'd adds a lot to the film in terms of character development and illustrates the tragedy of the situation so much better. The theatrical cut just feels so rushed.

I can't believe they asked Renny Harlin to direct at first... That guy is horrible!

Ironically his ideas for the third Alien film were shot down by Fox only to be used decades later in similar forms through AvP and Prometheus. He initially proposed going to the Alien home world to explore the origin of the Xenomorph. Then he proposed having the Aliens arrive on Earth. Fox insisted on focusing on a prison ship (which evolved into a prison planet) and it's prisoners fighting for survival against the Alien in a contained environment. Harlin felt audiences wouldn't feel sympathetic towards prisoners and that the format wouldn't work so he quit. He went on to direct Die Hard 2.

The Descent's Director's Cut ending is a bit different than its released version.
It's primarily a removal of material, but it makes a huge difference.
