What do your eyes and brain tell you when you have a original painting vs a giclee print in front of you? Is there a lot more to admire with original paintings?

A print is a print.
With a painting, you know the actual artist has stood in front of the very same canvas and painted the one and only you have in front of you
It could be argued that oil on canvas is just that.
What makes one painting sell for $2000.00, another painting sell for $20,000.00 and some for $2,000,000.00 or even $20,000,000.00+
I guess it is all in the name, and what some are willing to pay.
As with statues / figures, i think it makes sense to buy what you like. If value comes later, then view it as a bonus

Thanks for that! Very well stated.
Yeah I'm not thinking of this as an investment. I really really like the work. But the added value is indeed a nice bonus.
I've been a big fan of the Marvel Masterpieces Card line for a long long time...and man would I love to own a piece of history. But then I see something like this and just have to give up. Could never come up with this kinda money. $95K ......

These Simon Bianchi pieces are gorgeous...

Ha yeah! And I think that size is with the frame included.
Absolutely crazy...
Although to be fair most people think I'm crazy for spending 600-700 on comic statues. The Hildebrandt original piece is for a collector in another different stratosphere. Here are some of their works in the 1994 Marvel Masterpiece Card collection.

Most I ever spent was $1200 for my Jenny Frison XMen Red#7 Cover Art. I did spent $1000 on my David Yardin Savageland Storm commission - no regrets as it is cover worthy.
I would like to get into panel page collecting. I little more "reasonably priced" for my personal budget. Plus it would also allow me to get art from issues that I loved throughout the years and different designs of characters. I love all the Hulk pages some of the Green Gang gets. It's fun to see.

Alas, it is the going rate for quality artwork that also is a good investment. I would not spent that much on something I could not resell for more once the time comes. However, I am done with commissions or artwork I do not get to see in advance. Too many negative experiences taking that route.

My husband would kill me, even if I told him it was an "investment." Unless it's in the bank making interest, that 10K is way over my fun money budget. I envy you AND that art I've seen you get by dropping that coin

Thanks!!
I keep thinking (hoping!) prices will decrease but they aren't. There are numerous bigger names that are now out of reach for most collectors. I'm actually thankful more people are not aware of the investment potential of original artwork, otherwise, things might be even worse!
