Temporary withdrawl to self-cultivate is a good thing. People who "shut themselves out" become stagnant and sometimes implode from the weight of their inaction, or explode when confronted by outside influences they cannot comprehend. I prefer to roam and engage in life fully. My goal is to have no attachments. This is a difficult path to tread and requires more discipline than I currently have.

Aren't these two sentences mutually exclusive? How does one engage in life fully while having no attachments?

I don't think they are mutually exclusive. Essentially it depends on your veiw of enjoying Life. I can enjoy things without them dominating my life. I can choose to travel somewhere, meet different people, and I don't become dependent on them. I learn and teach as I go. My goal is to become independent. I think in the end there is one Universal goal, a gracious death with no regrets.

Being self-sufficient does not preclude community with others, but it does prevent the shortcomings when society is one's only source of union.

This would explain the unabomber.

Seriously , friends are sacred and without friends I wouldn't be much of a person myself .
I hope to meet some Friends from the board someday if I ever make it to the U.S. Bat collector can show me all the best comic book stores alphabetically ordered and reviewed with scores from 1 to 10 , I'll have to go drink some Guinness with Bullseye and I can train a few rounds with the heavy weight from the Board our own Sam Wilson !! just to name a few of the crazy's around here
