If Hot Toys decides to make statues I have zero doubt in my mind they will be successful.

However I dont believe for a second they could overthrow Sideshow as the dominant player in the statue market.

Once a player becomes dominant (apple=ipod /Microsoft=OS) it is VERY rare that anyone can overthrow them. And usually if it happens its not because the newcomer was that much better...its because the dominant player got lazy (see USA automakers).

Statues and 12" figures are both equally niche. Less than 1% of the worlds population even knows these products exist.

An example would be Lamborghini. Most have heard of this company yet they sell less than 3000 cars per year. Thats a niche market even though the company is famous. A company like Ford sells more cars in a day than Lambo sells in a year.

As such a company like Hasbro sells more action figures in a day than every niche toy company sells in a year.
I'm 29 years old and before May of 2008 I had no clue that statues and 12" figures even existed unless you could buy them at target, wal mart, or toys r us.

It's crazy to see where I'm at now and how much I've spent!

It would be interesting for Hot toys to do statues but they are better off making their fully articulated collectible figures. I would prefer my figures to be poseable so i can take different shots of them.

So, basically they are scared that they'll fail.
Understandable.

That would be a smart move. If they turn out to be extremely popular HT could just say "Yeah, that's our sister company" and take all the do credit.
If they failed, they could just deny any involvement.

I can tell you is HOT TOYS Head QUARTER is very closed to my home. It maybe a little bit out of topic.
The answer is simple, asian company don't make coldcast statue mostly. Do you know Medicom? They are only making Action Figure only.
Coldcast or Polystone mostly fit US market.
