Forgive my ignorance. I'm at work and could do the research on my own, but most sites are blocked from Gov computers. I'm lucky I can get on this one!
Check this link to see what digital printers can print out and now paint for you. The Z650 I want costs about $65,000 but it paints in over 300,000 colors.

Here is the link to check out an example.

If you had one what would be the cost to print a 1/4 scale statue?

Did you see that? Very little on the new Ant-Man picture was behind on the left side the 3rd Wolverine head. I try to grow it up.

From what I can see, I like it. So glad they are adding that 3rd head. Zero chance I would ever display the 1st unmasked head they have shown.

That's to just print one 1/4 scale statue if you own a machine? Yikes! Why is it so expensive?

you guys want to go in on one?

you do realize this printer and the ones that are coming are going to revolutionize the industry right?
you guys want the production pieces to look exactly like the prototypes?
well, its going to be a reality one day with machines like this.

That's the industry cost more or less.
There's tons of programming to each part involved, adding 3D supports for each piece, that right there is an art into itself all by its lonesome.
Lots of post production work, like sanding, removing supports ( for machines that use supports)cost of resin is high, cost of supports, cost of engineering a model, you just can't pop a file into the printer, you have to cut the model, create offsets, male female pegs, make the model "water tight" no holes basically, fix errors in geometry, and once printed you gotta remove off printer platform ( that can be tough at times), do an ultra sonic cleanse of each part, bake it in a UV oven, fill in, putty, many times resculpt minor areas, sand, glue....
Obviously if you own your machine it is a lot cheaper but that doesn't mean you won't invest money paying others for doing all the aforementioned things or just do them yourself.

Yeah it's not like printing paper .....yet.
