I have searched and may have over looked it but my question is for the sculptors using stands to support a piece being worked on. How is it disconnected from the stand, and with out harming your work?
Im new to sculpting, just progressing my first peice now.
I have the wire armature fastned down to a wooden base. I drilled 4 pairs of small holes close to each other, equi-distant around the base to take wire which is fed up and over the base of the armature and back down the adjacent hole. This was then twisted with pliers to clamp down the frame.
To release, it will be a simple case of snipping the twisted wire.
Newbie here too. I don't do more than slot the wire armature into the holes I drilled into a base. Most of my pieces have been busts though, so only one wire.
Most armatures for standing figures have a threaded fitting inside and they use a threaded rod to secure to that. When finished, just unscrew the rod and fill the hole.
