DC Collectables presents The Batman Black and White series Bane by Kelly Jones
Jason Quaregna
DC Collectibles again hits a home run for the collectors with their latest installment to the Batman Black and White series. The newest statue to the group is Bane with art inspired by Kelly Jones and sculpted by Ray Villafane. Kelly Jones brought us the man that broke the Batman during the iconic “Batman: Knightfall” covers. Bane is one of Batman’s most dangerous and powerful enemies who’s intellect and strength make him an unstoppable juggernaut. The Black and White series is a collection of comic stories drawn in, as you would imagine, black and white. DC Collectibles has done a fine job of recreating Batman and his rogues in perfect essence to the Black and White genre.
Packaging:
The statue comes again in a DC Collectibles style packing with the new “Peel Back” look. There are some great concept art pictures along with the up and coming releases from the line. The interior packing has your standard Styrofoam that has the base separated from the statue. The statue connects to the base via two pegs in the base to two holes in the feet of the statue.
The Statue:
Bane is painted in the same black, grey, and white scheme that all the others in the line have. The details of the statue’s muscular physique are extremely detailed. It was as if the statue popped out of the picture. The statue stands at approx. 8.75 inches tall upon its oval Bat symbol base. This is Kelly’s second statue in this series as pictured below you will see the Batman next to Bane inspired by his art. I love the detail of the mask as you can see him growling under it. This statue is by far the biggest of the collection, surprisingly it does not weigh as much as it would look too.
Retail for this item at your local comic shop will run you $95-$100. I wasn’t too happy with the increase in price, but is understood due to the sheer size and the detail that was put in. Online outlets may allow you to get a deal less than the retail but with this being a newer item that has been the going price for this item.
Overall:
Adding this to my collection called for some re-arranging of the shelves due to Bane’s size, but as you will see in the picture it was TOTALLY worth it. I say this after every review and it stands true that these are works of art, and you will NOT be disappointed having them on your shelf.
