Trouble with being sticky!
Hey guys....got a little issue and need some help. After finishing a sculpt, and painting it, then after drying, matte spray it.....why is the thing sticky. Like the paint isnt drying? The sculpt is made out of sculpy firm, I used acrylic paints and acrylic matte spray, but spots on the sculpt are sticky. Any advice would be appreciated. I've never run into this before. Thanks in advance.

Was it sticky at all between coats or just after the matte spray?
I ran into this problem once a few years back when priming a piece. I ended up just dusting it with talcum powder, letting it sit a bit, then rinsing it off. The powder sucked up whatever the sticky was and the excess rinsed right off. Try this method at your own risk, not sure how it will work on a finished piece.

It only gets sticky after I use the matte spray. Not all over, but in sections. Its the same matte spray Ive used for several other sculpts.

It sounds like this is more a material problem than a paint problem.
Did you throughly bake the sculpy ... and more importantly, did you prime before painting it.
Generally sculpy doesn't take paint well, which is why I have all my sculpts molded and cast into resin which is a much better material to paint on.

The paint took well, as it wasnt sticky after I initially painted it. It wasnt even sticky after I initially matte sprayed it. It was pretty much hours later. I've painted sculpy before and never had any issues, however this time, it came out that way. Still trying to figure it out.
And yes, I always use primer, and always bake thourghly.

I had this happen with one of my sculpts i painted a while back, did everything the same as normal but around a couple of weeks later it was still a bit tacky.
Still dont know what caused it and havent had it happen since so i marked it down to just one of those things

what matt spray?
Cause if its any of those krylon or no name clear coats from a spray can, i have seen them do crap like this all the time. Which is why i do not use them anymore. I only clear with testors dull or gloss, or chemicals thru my airbrush.

Testors dullcote is what I use. I tested the powder trick and it actually worked. The powder seemed to absorb the stickiness. After I put the powder on, I let it set for a few minutes, then rinsed it off with cold water. No paint came off and all is well. I know I took a risk on a finished product, but luckily it worked.

Nice I'm glad my little trick worked out for you. It didn't dull the colors or anything?
