Most memorable story arc
What are some of the most memorable story arcs from your past that really gripped you and made you glad to be a comic book reader?
Some of my most memorable are:
The Thing and Spiderman teaming up to battle the Basilisk in a MTU/ MTIO crossover. That story really grabbed me when I was younger, and I thought it was the coolest.
A MTU story arc that featured Doc Strange, Spiderman, and Iron Man in court during the trial of Jean DeWolff’s brother…the Wraith! Man, what a great read that was!
The Avengers vs Ultron story during the 160’s and 170’s of the first series were amazing. Man, when the Black Panther tracked Ultron down and snuck into his lair...what a scene!
Ultron boasted something like…”I am impressed you got past my security, but what can you hope to do alone against me?” Then Mjolnir smashed through a wall, and Iron Man blasted through another wall and said “Who said he was alone?” GREAT STUFF!
How about you?

Miller's Daredevil run had two really fantastic story arcs that stayed with me - The Death of Elektra was incredible. Her Death scene and the resulting revenge against Bullseye were so damn good, I've yet to read a better DD story. His follow up with Daredevile Reborn where Karen Page outed DD to the Kingpin was a story I feel Bendis and Brubaker are quietly motivated by in an attempt to beat. Not a chance.
Miller's Batman Year One has stuck with me through the years. I remember reading in in College and knowing no other comic people there, I had no one to talk to about it and I darn near exploaded. Miller wrote groundbreaking arcs that writers still "borrow from" to this day.

The Dark Phoenix arc may be Marvel's all-time best, IMO. It's certainly my favorite.

These are great ones. Love the Basilisk story you mentioned and the Ultron story, too. For me others include:
Death of Jeanne DeWolf
Avengers Under Siege
Born Again
Demon in a Bottle
Thunder in the Netherworld (first Thor/Hercules arc)
Batman Year One
