Props to Great Destroyer
As some of you know, my soon-to-be 16 year old son is a member of this fine establishment, with the forum name of Great Destroyer. This past year was a little rough for him, health wise. Nothing serious but he kept getting strep throat and sick in general, missing about 16 days of school. His tonsils swelled up to the size of golf balls, giving him all kinds of other problems like being able to breathe while he slept, and this past Monday at a doctor's strong recommendation he had them removed. Now, for a small child this isn't such a big deal. But this kid is about 5' 11" and 165lbs. The surgeon told us we'd have a very difficult two week recovery period. Now that we're on day 5 I have to say this kid's suffered some pretty tremendous pain and he's got more in store for him over the next week or so. A tonsillectomy certainly is not a big deal compared to other far more serious problems and procedures. Still, the kid's in real pain and your kind thoughts and good wishes for his recovery whether here or a PM (which would surprise and delight him when he's back on his feet and back on the forum), I'm sure, will be much appreciated.
Thanks!

as a doctor and anaesthetist/pain specialist - i can tell you that tonsils are a bother but also having them BURN out of the back of your throat,a very sensitive part of your body, for a tonsillectomy is a killer! imagine having to swallow, drink or cough - OUCH
very common procedure and very painful - seen usually in teens and it is a fact that young people need more analgesia and as we get older we need less for comparable operations.
all the best over the next few day mate and make sure you keep up with your pain relief and fluids - it will eventually get better - and from the sounds of things in the long run a much needed op.
stay strong and hope to hear of your recovery on the boards

All the best GD. I hope your dad buys you lots of cool comics, graphic novels and collected editions to take your mind off the pain.

Great Destroyer!!!
I know how ya feel I had mine out at a young age and it was terrible, I can just imagine how it must feel at 16.
Hang in there man!!!
And like everyone said don't forget the ice cream.
And ginger ale helped a lot too!

I had mine taken out when I was 20. The older you are the worse it is.
Hope he feels better soon.
