How to paint particleboard IKEA Detolf?

Hello,

I'm hoping if some expert can help me in providing direction to paint it from beech effect color to black-brown color.

Based on the description, it seems to be a particleboard. What's the best way in painting it? any preparation? is it just a simple buying a spray paint? do I need to primer it?

Any information will be helpful.

Thanks in advance,

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10011055

product description & measurements:
Top/bottom panel: Particleboard, Foil
Shelf support: Steel, Pigmented epoxy/polyester powder coating
Glass panels: Tempered/safety glass

he might be trying to save money. I have the light brown as well and have too thought about spending about six bucks on a can of paint rather than another $75-90 on a new cabinet.

I'm goint to go out on a limb here and suggest that he may be trying to save a few bucks.

I have about 6 of these Detolf...I"m painting my room..and a black would fit well instead of the brown.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm thinking of just sanding it down first and spray paint it.

Roughing up the original coat is a good idea. Should help your paint stick much better. Recommend Krylon Fusion paint....that stuff sticks to anything!

I painted 4 of these before they started making them in different colors. I lightly sanded the surface and then used Kilz in a spraycan. Once it was dry, I used flat black spraypaint. Worked great.

Really?
It worked fine for mine. You are using "wall" paint?
