Sigma 20mm prime

I wanted to buy something fast and wide and this Sigma is practically the only choice in this section. At least for a reasonable amount of money.
I was extremely hesitant to purchase this lens since most "pro" reviews on the net are not in favour of it.
But I know pros sometimes loose themselves in technical efficiency of gear so I decided to buy it. It was used and I got a fair deal on it so the worst that can happen is I'll have to resell it.

In two days of use I'm satisfied and it will serve my purpose well. If anybody wants additional info feel free to ask.

One sample pic of Spawn - 3 inch variant, the bonsai in the background is only 4 inches away, this is all bokeh no PS.

ISO 200, Av 2.2 and Tv 1/40

ah nice. I've tried this lens before... my humble opinion is its soft for a prime. Then again maybe my copy was not that good. The face seems sharp (is this your point of focus?)

How much did you get this and for what mount?

I agree it is a good deal softer than lets say Canon 24 1.4 prime but Sigma costs three times as less. I will eventually upgrade since quality glass is above else but for now I'm quite pleased. I need this for specialty work only so its not a huge rush. The face was the point of focus. I paid 350$ and its Canon mount. I use full frame but people have stated that its not that good on crop sensors.

One thing though, its sharper with close ups than infinity focus. For distance work I won't put it wider than 2.8 except in really low light situations. I'm doing a wedding today and will see how it performs.

That's good to hear! Congratulations on your haul then =D

Since the cost is 3 times as less I would definitely give this a shot =D

I used a 14mm and a 20mm before on the wedding of my friend's sister and they were pretty nice =D

Some more photos from this lens, quite enjoying it I must say. Depth of field with the angle of view is really great. I'm not a nature photographer so excuse me if the photos are not on par. I tried using a flash for fill in but its not posibble without a dedicated macro flash as I was a few inches away from the subjects and the lens cast shadows. And the last pic shows why my efforts were focused on nature today. Only 2 and a half years old and already the phone is her friend.
