When to buy...?

...a new dictionary?

I have one I have used for years (me bad spell person), and it's falling apart.

Looked at the publish date and it was 1989.

Am getting a new one but was wondering how often should one update their copy of a dictionary.

(Yes I can use spell check, but still really need and want a hard copy, because I spell so badly that Spell Check can't figure out what I mean on most occasions)
