Base

Hello,

Long time lurker, first time poster...

I've recently started sculpting again, this time working on a piece a friend asked me to do. It's a fairly simple bust that was going to go on a base I sculpted separately. The problem is, after baking both of them apart, the plug no longer fits the socket as snugly as it did pre-bake. Here are the options I'm entertaining:

1) Use two part epoxy putty to join them and then painting over the join to conceal it.

2) Make a new base molded off of the socket and then bake them both together hoping the polymer clay will join with itself. Otherwise, I can secure the base with Krazy glue.

Anyone have any advice on to which would work best and what the pros and cons are? Thanks.

~Magus

EDIT: The piece is in Super Sculpey Firm and I was going to use either regular Super Sculpey or more Firm.

Nothing is painted. Here is a link to the facebook album where I've documenting the work for the person I'm doing the piece for.

I would say just attach it with some Aves, it should be fine.

You're welcome. You could even just put some Aves in the hole part and wet the peg and just get it to be a good fit then let the Aves dry, paint each part, and glue them together at the end.

Use a dremel to sand the plug to fit the socket... that way you won't have to sculpt at all, and you will have a nice fit! Good luck!
