"The hardcover 10th anniversary edition of The Dark Knight Returns was a book I owned then regretted selling. The cover by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson was just a thing of beauty. Subsequent versions and reprints of this book had different covers - but this one is special to me. I decided to recreate it myself on 8.5 x 13" vellum board which is roughly the same scale as the standard 11 x 17 comic art board. Since it was smaller, details are not as tight but the size makes it easier on the hands to ink. I printed also a "board" background to give it a more retro feel. I am also including a pic of it beside an actual comic so you can see the size different which is not much."
These are inks over bluelines. I tried my best to do a line-for-line replica of the original but it was difficult at times because I was working on a smaller paper.
