Recreated A Cover I Will Never Afford (Or Own!)

I have always had the motto: "If you can't afford it, then just recreate it!"

This is my latest recreation.

THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS TENTH ANNIVERSARY HARDCOVER COVER
original by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson

Here is the CAF link:

http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...93&GSub=114039

..and for those too lazy, here is the description:

"The hardcover 10th anniversary edition of The Dark Knight Returns was a book I owned then regretted selling. The cover by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson was just a thing of beauty. Subsequent versions and reprints of this book had different covers - but this one is special to me. I decided to recreate it myself on 8.5 x 13" vellum board which is roughly the same scale as the standard 11 x 17 comic art board. Since it was smaller, details are not as tight but the size makes it easier on the hands to ink. I printed also a "board" background to give it a more retro feel. I am also including a pic of it beside an actual comic so you can see the size different which is not much."

These are inks over bluelines. I tried my best to do a line-for-line replica of the original but it was difficult at times because I was working on a smaller paper.

The rest of my recreations of comic images I will never afford or own in this lifetime are here:

I also recreated more art I will never afford in this lifetime, as I am a big fan of anything DC so naturally would love their "big guns" - John Byrne, George Perez, and the legendary Jim Aparo.

I wanted to recreate more Perez work and also wanted to practice drawing difference faces.

What better art to recreate (or "complete") than the JLA Avengers Collector's Edition cover. To my knowledge and based on CAF, there is no inked version that exists. Once is simple the Perez pencil art, and the other is the fully painted one by Tom Smith.

So I decided to make an inked one here:

You can also find close up pictures of each segment of the art.

Here are the work-in-progress pics:
