DRAG ME TO HELL
Saw it this afternoon. Extremely disappointed, bordering on outright anger. This was not the movie I was sold by Universal. It was not the "return of true horror," but instead a predictable "Tales from the Crypt / Creepshow" flick. If I had gone in expecting that, I would have been more forgiving, but the internet hype of "instant classic" had me going into the theater expecting a new "Exorcist," which by the way I saw in the theater (with my Mom!) back in 1973. Same old schtick from Raimi, which was once great, but now seems a bit tired. Go in expecting a few jumps along with a few laughs, and hopefully you won't leave the theater muttering as I did.

I saw the midnight movie Thursday night/Friday morning. I still can't decide if I would have liked "Drag Me to Hell" MORE if I had never seen "Evil Dead" or if I would have HATED "Drag Me to Hell" if I had never seen "Evil Dead." While I LOVE "Evil Dead" I can't say I love "Drag Me to Hell."

It's funny because Rottentomatoes is at 95% right now.
I don't base everything on film critics, but the response seems overwhelmingly positive.
I'll judge for myself when I hit the matinee Sun.
I like Rami's style, it's fun and frightening at the same time.

I wish I had gone in with that attitude, as I might have actually enjoyed the film. There were some effective jumps and a few good gross-out moments, but sadly nothing scary, much less horrifying.

Local newspaper gave it an A-, which I was surprised about. Knowing Raimi films, I kind of know what to expect when I see this and I am looking forward to it.

the 'cursed' theme stolen from steven king's thinner with demons and suffering souls. sounds like a good old fashioned scarefest with raimi.
